I posted earlier about Phil Wickham’s Singalong album and the genius idea of making it a free download.

Well the last few days, his song “You’re Beautiful” has become the soundtrack for my morning commute. This song, like its title, is beautiful. It is also powerful! Full of emotion AND truth! It has become my new favorite worship song. Check out the lyrics!

I see Your face in every sunrise
The colors of the morning are inside Your eyes
The world awakens in the light of the day
I look up to the sky and say
You’re beautiful

I see Your power in the moonlit night
Where planets are in motion and galaxies are bright
We are amazed in the light of the stars
It’s all proclaiming who You are
You’re beautiful, You’re beautiful

I see you there hanging on a tree
You bled and then you died and then you rose again for me
Now you are sitting on Your heavenly throne
Soon we will be coming home
You’re beautiful, you’re beautiful

When we arrive at eternity’s shore
Where death is just a memory and tears are no more
We’ll enter in as the wedding bells ring
Your bride will come together and we’ll sing
You’re beautiful, You’re beautiful, You’re beautiful

And now with three posts about Phil (his Hallelujah cover is here), I’m officially a Phil Wickham UBERFAN!

New GENIUS Playlist!

I was recently given some iTunes gift cards. These cards, coupled with the new Genius feature on iTunes, made for some fun purchases for me. Now all of these songs are not currently on the same playlist, but they were all bought recently. Most of them with the help of Genius.

If you’re a fan of Alison Krauss, Nickel Creek, The Greencards, or The Duhks then go to iTunes right now and download this album – Declaration. Act of Congress, a solid bluegrass band out of Birmingham have put together a great album. I’m a fan of all kinds of music, but mostly I’m a fan of music that is done well, and these guys, and gal, do not disappoint. Excellent musicianship, delicate harmonies, and at times poetic faith.

Additionally, Chris, the guitar playing beast on ‘The Bear’, was once my wing-man! 🙂 Check ’em out!

Pandora Radio

I love to have music playing while I’m at work. Sometimes I’m in a chill mood, sometimes I just want some good worship, and other times I’m in a bit more of an aggressive mood (ain’t nothing like some good AC/DC or ZZ Top on these days). The problem is that even though I have well over 4,000 songs in my iTunes library, it is very easy to get into a listening rut.

Well thanks to my friend Kyle, I’ve found a solution to this problem: Pandora Radio. You can go here and type in the artists you like and they create a radio station based on your interests. As songs play you can go and tell them the ones you like and/or dislike. I’ve even discovered a few new artists through this free service.

I’ve already set up three radio stations depending on my mood and I’m loving it! Thanks Kyle!

So today while we were riding through town listening to our summer mix, Bruce Springsteen’s classic “Glory Days” came on. “The Boss” put on one of the best live shows I’ve every seen, and “Glory Days” is one of my favorite songs. Evie loves it because in the video Bruce mentions Graig Nettles, one of her all-time favorite Yankees, by name at the end of the video.

Today, as this song played in our car Blake asked, “Who is this?”

I replied, “This is Bruce Springsteen! Some people call him ‘The Boss’.”

“Cool,” Blake said.

“Do you like him,” I asked.

“Yes!” Blake energetically came back. “He kinda sounds like Hannah Montana!”

To which all I could do was laugh! A LOT!!

Things have been a bit hectic the past few weeks (therefore fewer blog entries). I’ve spoke at two camps, taken on some new responsibilities and am gearing up for an exciting fall ministry season. In times like these, I’m in need of some excellent ‘chill’ music. Thought I’d share part of my current playlist with you:

Enjoy! Hopefully some more posts will soon follow.

A couple of my buddies (Lance & Kyle) already posted this, but oh well, I still fell like sharing it. They’re just a lot cooler for sharing it first! 🙂 Doesn’t change the fact that this is an amazing cover of Jeff Buckley’s signature song! Phil Wickham… you’re brilliant!
