Why I LOVE Christmas

  • Unplugging from the daily routine
  • Admiring the hills of Tennessee
  • Seeing 60+ year old people play Wii (Hilarious!!!)
  • The smell of dinner cooking
  • Mama’s dressing (BEST EVER!)
  • Mac & Cheese (don’t care who makes it… just HAVE SOME!)
  • Sleepy time (immediately following dinner… lol)
  • Reading the Christmas story in Luke 2 before…
  • Opening presents one… by… one…
  • Watching the grandkids wait their turn… one… by… one…
  • The sounds of laughter and excitement that fill the room
  • Being with the group of people who know me best… and still love me most
  • Remembering that Jesus is the catalyst for ALL OF IT!!

In my devotional time yesterday (I’ve been using the new Men’s Devotional Bible by Zondervan), I read the story of Solomon in 1 Kings 3. It’s when God appeared to Solomon in a dream saying he could ask for whatever he wanted.

Imagine such an offer from God. What would you ask for? Long life? Health for your family? A beautiful wife? A godly husband? Musical or athletic ability? You name it. Solomon could have had it. And as a young, inexperienced 20 year old king, Solomon chose wisely and asked for a discerning heart.

So imagine. What if God showed up in your dreams tonight? If you knew you could take one prayer request to God, and He’d answer you, what would you ask for? I mean, what do you REALLY want for Christmas?

Angel Tree Shopping

This afternoon we’ll take the kids shopping to pick up a some presents for a couple of kids in our area. We found out about these kids at our church: GenesisChurch.tv. The church is working with a local agency who’ve made it their business to provide Christmas for kids in our area that other wise may not receive anything. I’m proud to go to a church that regularly does this kind of stuff. I’m also excited that my kids get to participate. By picking out a present for someone else this Christmas, we hope to instill in them that Christmas truly is about giving.
